Cycle of Disappointment

One thing we should be taught is how to deal with professional rejection. I mean, through our whole life we have been dealing with rejection of all kind, why does it have to be so difficult to deal with this specific kind of rejection?

The first reason that pops-up into my mind is how naïve is our idea of the job world. We left university full of hopes and dreams, ready to embrace new challenges, and then we end up realizing that sometimes we can always get what we want right away. Sometimes the path is tortuous, but eventually, we might reach our dreams.

We get some interviews; our expectations get higher; after all, someone acknowledged our potential enough to get us an opportunity to sit and talk a little with us. In one hand that is amazing, we should be flattered, but then it comes the disappointment. After all, with such higher competition, so many more qualified people on the list, why exactly should the company should choose us? Why exactly should we, with barely any experience, should get that position? That is exactly what we all try to prove during an interview. Sometimes you feel that you did well, but then still you get a big no. We have to deal with it, I am still learning how to do that exactly, and move on just like we learn to do with every disappointment that crossed our life.

One other obstacle is money, the origin of most of our problems in this life. Why should a company spent time and money with someone with no experience when they can just pick someone more qualified? I guess that especially during the current situation the opportunities given to recent graduated are even less than usual. The economy is broken and so are we. Definitely, not a good year to graduate, but that is what we got, right?

I guess that facing this disappointment is a cross that most of us have to carry. We all have to deal with professional rejection, face the raw reality and just keep swimming until we finally reach our true place. We might have to make some poor decisions along the way, but that is what will ultimately lead us to where we belong. Step by step we will get there.
